Think about the first time you ever felt Love; the Love that brings a smile to your face and leaves you feeling like a bottle of sunshine. How old were you? For me, I was a freshman in high school and I remember the moment as if it were yesterday. He was leaning up against his car waiting for me at the curb in front of my house. The sun was streaming down, lighting him from behind, and he smiled at me. All I could think is I am totally in love with this man. Well, as much of a man as one can be at 16. Some might call it puppy love, but I knew deep down in my soul that this was it.
As I have gone through my adult life, the feeling from that moment is what I search for in my relationships and have been lucky enough to find a time or two. It’s that warm fuzzy sigh when I’m being squeezed and have the safe sense that all is right in the world. It’s what makes me light up when he walks into the room. But then the relationship ends and the heart aches, and Love slips away. Why does is seem that we can only experience that warm fuzzy Love with another?
It’s time for you to find connection; not with others, but with yourself. Often, we fill every waking moment with noise… electronic noise, mindless television playing in the background, or music from our latest play list. We bombard ourselves with busy lives, running from one appointment to the next, never giving ourselves any real time to relax. Have you ever allowed the silence to permeate down to your core so you can find the most important Love of all? Have you ever simply listened to your own heartbeat and breath as you cleared your thoughts to allow your own truth to bubble up?
The beautiful thing about Love is the total acceptance of who you are and how you were made to be. And though it is wonderful for another to extend their Love to you, it is even greater when you extend that Love to yourself. There is peace in knowing and accepting this is your own “I am” and letting that be perfect for this moment. By knowing your truth and honoring who you are by aligning your actions with your values, you can become your own Valentine and radiate your Love for the world to see. So on this Valentine’s weekend, are you ready to discover the greatest Love?
